Accessible Bus Routes in Norfolk:

Access for All on Norfolk Buses

First Bus, who are the main operator in the city, claim that most of their buses are now accessible.

Whilst this is true, disabled people have identified a number of on going problems.

  • Many bus drivers are unhelpful and won't announce the appropriate stop to a visually impaired person, help them to scan their bus pass (or press the button to register it) and help them to a vacant seat.

  • The interior of the buses are always different.

  • Buses don't stop at their right stand in the bus station or don't stop in the right place at bus stops.

  • Buses take different routes unexpectedly at the weekend and the drivers don't announce this which can cause delays to journeys and lots of confusion.

  • A driver shut the bus door on someone's head, leading to bruising as he'd pressed the button to close the door by mistake instead of the button to lower the platform for her. The buttons are adjacent.

  • There are not enough seats and many of the standing spaces are taken by buggies.

  • Some drivers are exempt from operating the manual ramps due to serious back complaints and consequently refuse to operate them.

If you do encounter a problem using the buses then go to the company's web site and complain!
