NORWICH ACCESS GROUP is absolutely delighted to be working in partnership with NORWICH CITY COUNCIL to implement part of the Equality Act 2010 by including merit awards on their :-

A disability merit award will be given to those premises which meet the criteria of having easy level access, easily accessible tables of a suitable height and toilets with appropriate wheelchair accessibility.
 
One click and disabled people with limited mobility have a choice of accessible eating places in Norwich.

The Merits

Healthier Options NORfolk award (HONor). Caterers that offer healthier options on their menus and are committed to using healthier catering practices.

Pledge for health - businesses that have pledged to improve people’s health.


We buy local - caterers use at least five ingredients that are sourced within East Anglia.


Breastfeeding friendly.



Disabled access - businesses provide wheelchair access and toilet facilities for people with limited mobility.


Disabled Access Merit Qualifying Criteria

  1. Is the entrance at least 800mm wide, level (or ramped) and free of hazards like ‘A’ boards or an alternative entrance signed and/or is there a bell?
  2. Is the entrance door easy to open or is there an accessible bell to attract a member of staff?
  3. Is there enough room to move around between tables?
  4. Do tables give enough space  underneath for wheelchair access? (check under the surface for obstacles, they should have at least 710mm height clearance underneath)
  5. If the seating at tables fixed is there a suitable approach for use by wheelchair users?
  6. Is there a toilet on the same level with provision for disabled people? (i.e. toilets fitted out in accordance with Building Regulations Part M)
  7. Can the disabled persons’ toilet be easily accessed in a powerchair or scooter and can the door be closed behind you? (i.e. enough space and free of clutter)
